BankSA is a major supporter of charities within South Australia and the Northern Territory. These funds are primarily provided through the BankSA & Staff Charitable Fund. The Fund was established in 1941, when staff of the Savings Bank of South Australia (BankSA’s predecessor) decided to send comfort parcels to colleagues serving in the armed forces in the Middle East.
Staff agreed to donate part of their salary toward the purchase of items that would provide some comfort to serving staff. These items included socks, coffee, tea, chocolate and copies of local papers. At the completion of the war and following the return of service men and women, staff of the Bank agreed to continue to provide financial support. Staff decided to assist various returned service leagues and other organisations that were established to support service men, women and their immediate families.
The Booze Brothers Staff Charitable Fund began in April, 2002. It was formed after the serious illness of a member of the staff. Funds were raised initially to assist in his recovery and ongoing support of his education. From this, the staff decided to approach management with a view to have an ongoing commitment to charity. The Foundation is proudly supported by staff from Booze Brothers Botttleshops and Saturno Group Hotels, the Directors and friends of the Foundation. The aim of the Foundation is to support wherever possible South Australian Charities and Community Groups by way of donations for equipment, sponsorship of particular projects and other needs that may arise in the community.
Their funds come mainly from their staff, the generosity of their sponsors and Directors, though they also conduct other fundraising events throughout the year. The members believe in giving everyone a fair go, and to this end we support, homeless, marginalized, underprivileged children and young adults in crisis. They believe that children in particular are our future and seek to assist charities who give them support on a regular basis.
