Bereavement Support
Counselling
SIDS and Kids SA currently has two qualified professional counsellors and access to an Aboriginal Bereavement Support worker to provide counselling for families affected by the sudden unexpected death of a baby or young child from 20 weeks gestation up to six years of age.
Group meetings for Mother’s, Father’s, siblings and Grandparents are held from time to time with various topics being discussed.
Memorial Services are held each year, one on Red Nose Day in the metropolitan area and the second conducted in a regional community.

Crisis Intervention
Crisis counsellors are available by phoning 1300 799 656 they will attend all sudden unexpected deaths within 100 kms of Adelaide and provide telephone and electronic media support to remote areas.
The counsellors are notified by the police or ambulance service and provide initial crisis intervention, providing information to the family about processes surrounding the death of their child, and support for the family, friends and others affected by the death.
Notifications for families whose children are stillborn are received from hospitals and by self referral to SIDS and Kids.
Peer Support
Trained volunteers are available to support bereaved families. Many of our peer support workers have experienced the death of a child or grandchild, while others are health professionals from the local community.
